Order lifecycle

Payment, processing and government record are three separate states. What each one is and how to check it.

Revised

01Three states, tracked separately

Payment
Confirmed immediately by our receipt. A commercial receipt for a service; not a government document.
Processing
Shown on the order page reached from that receipt. Access is by unguessable token rather than login, so the link is the credential.
Government record
Separate from both, and the only one relevant to enforcement. Where staff have checked it, the order page states what was observed and the date of observation.
Why these are never merged

A single combined status would be wrong about at least one of them at almost any moment, and the failure is asymmetric: a carrier who believes a payment receipt is a registration finds out at the roadside.

02Held orders

An order that cannot be priced automatically — an unusual fleet size, or a base state requiring confirmation — is held before payment. The submitted details are retained, no charge is made, and the fee is sent by email.
